Using conferences with students to teach grammar

Page history last edited by candance 1 yr ago

Conference with a Writer (see Dornan pg. 98)

In groups of three, read through the student writing sample. With the question of grammar in mind, answer the following 4 questions. Keep in mind that, as the teacher, you are not evaluating the piece of writing at this moment, rather you are giving feedback to help the writer make revisions for a later draft that you will grade.

1) How would you give feedback to the writer by marking on the paper (see Dornan Chp. 4)

2) How would you respond to this writier in a conference? (see Dornan Chp. 4)

3) What suggestions would you make for revision? (Consider Harper and Fulwiler)

4) What assumptions about language and literacy inform your feedback for this student?
