Responding to & Evaluating Student Papers
Sample Student Papers:
Group #1 -- "On the Corner" (HANDOUT)
Group #2 -- "The Day I Took Off" (DORNAN pg. 110)
Group #3 -- "Fox" (CULHAM pg. 27)
Group #4 -- "What are the Qualities of a Good Teacher" (CULHAM pg. 234)
Step 1:(aprox. 10 minutes)
Individually give feedback to the student writer using the PATS technique. Next, evaluate the paper (give the paper a score of 1-5) according to the 6 Traits terminology. Refer to the 6 Traits Rubric in packet and 6 Traits text for guidance.
Step 2: (aprox. 20 minutes)
Meet up with two others, who have the same student paper, to share you responses and evaluations.
-
What was similar and different among your response and evaluations? Why?
-
As a teacher what would you do next to help, challenge or guide this writer?
While groups are discussing responses, evaluations and writing plans, decide what feedback or evaluation you would give this student and write this on the transparency.
Step 3:Share and Discuss (aprox. 30 minutes)
